Crossing the Line Teaser Three

March 10, 2013 at 8:30 PMKatie McGarry

Hi everyone!

Here is the the third teaser for Crossing the Line, Lila's story (Echo's best friend). Crossing the Line is an e-novella that will be released on April 1st. It is available now for pre-order.

In this scene, Lila is talking to her best friend, Echo, on the phone:

“Guess I should let you go.” Yep, I said it in a way that indicated that is so not what I want to do.

“I’ll stay on,” Echo says. “We could keep our phones on all night. Just like we did in elementary school.” Only then it was landlines. She would, because that’s what best friends do.

I swear I hear Noah groan in agony. Guess he doesn’t like BFF breaking in on make-out time.

Lila McCormick first met Lincoln Turner when tragedy struck both their lives. But she never expected their surprise encounter would lead to two years of exchanging letters-or that she'd fall for the boy she's only seen once. Their relationship is a secret, but Lila feels closer to Lincoln than anyone else. Until she finds out that he lied to her about the one thing she depended on him for the most.

Hurting Lila is the last thing Lincoln wanted. For two years, her letters have been the only thing getting him through the day. Admitting his feelings would cross a line he's never dared breach before. But Lincoln will do whatever it takes to fix his mistakes, earn Lila's forgiveness-and finally win a chance to be with the girl he loves.

Crossing the Line Teaser #2!

March 5, 2013 at 12:29 PMKatie McGarry

Hi everyone! Here is teaser number 2 for Lila's story, Crossing the Line. The release date is April 1st! This is from Lincoln's point of view!

I’m staring and I need to stop, but seeing her inhibits brain function. Girls don’t know it, but standing in the presence of beauty impairs guys. At least, it impairs me.

Screw it. It’s Lila. Lila impairs me.

Crossing the Line Teaser!

February 25, 2013 at 2:47 PMKatie McGarry

Hi everyone,

Crossing the Line, Lila's story, is due to be released on April 1st so that means we are little over a month away! To celebrate, I'm going to reveal a small excerpt from Crossing the Line each week until the e-novella is finally out in the wild!

Here is the description of Crossing the Line:

This excerpt is from Lila's first chapter:

The moment I open the door, I immediately regret not heeding the advice on the yellow Post-it note clinging near the small round hole: Lila, Always check the peephole before answering the door. You never know who’s on the other side.

Translation: serial killers knock before attacking. I watch CSI. It happens.

What do you think? Who's ready for Lila and Lincoln?

Happy Book Birthday Breaking Point

February 10, 2013 at 7:19 AMKatie McGarry

Hi everyone! This is a special week! Breaking Point, the second book in the Article 5 series, will be released on Tuesday, February 12th! In celebration, I asked Kristen Simmons a couple of questions. FYI--I've read this book at it is fantabulous!

Do you have a song as a couple and if so, what is it?

(Ok do you mean me and Jason? If so, here we go) Thrift Shop by Macklemore. Haha, I kid, I kid. It's "Crazy Love" by Aaron Neville.

Chase--favorite song

"Permanent," by David Cook. He can't hear it and not think of Ember.

Ember--favorite song "Make You Feel My Love" as sung by Adele. It always makes her think of Chase.

Theme song for Breaking Point "Lullaby" by JJ Grey & Mofro. I love this song. The lyrics are so tender and sweet - they make me think of Chase and Ember and how fragile they are right now as a couple - but the music behind them immediately brings images of ruined cities and resistance to the forefront of my mind.

Kristen--what is your favorite 80's, 90's, and current day song?

"I Wanna Dance With Somebody" by Whitney Houston (Right, Katie? I know you feel me!) "Basket Case" by Green Day (Shut up, it was the 90's) or "Baby Got Back" by Sir MixaLot "Edge of Glory" by Lady Gaga (impossible to sit still when this song comes on)

Hooked by Liz Fichera

January 27, 2013 at 12:00 PMKatie McGarry

Today I'm super excited to have Liz Fichera, author of Hooked, here to answer a few questions. This week is Hooked's Book Birthday! Happy Book Birthday Hooked!

1. What inspired you to write HOOKED?

I was driving down a long stretch of desolate desert road by my home in Phoenix, Arizona. The road happens to run parallel with the Gila River Indian Reservation. I got this image of a Native American girl holding a golf club. Weird, I know. But that’s it. I did an inspiration video if you’d like to see the pictures and other places mentioned in HOOKED: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFP9bNCTW4E

2. How did you come up with the names for your hero and heroine?

I knew that I needed a strong name for my heroine. She would never be a Tiffany or a Madison or something like that. Fredricka popped into my head. It was kind of different and old-school and the nickname “Fred” was icing on the cake for me. For the hero, I liked the name Ryan. In my head, he *looked* like a Ryan too. Names conjure up images in your head, you know?

3. Why did you decide to have your characters play golf?

Two reasons. First was that strong image I got of the Native American girl on the side of the road. Secondly, Native American culture and golf are plentiful in the American Southwest, though you rarely read about them in the same sentence, much less the same novel. I dared to be little different.

4. In reading HOOKED, I really enjoyed how you explored the cultural differences between Fred and Ryan and how that created conflict between the characters. What made you decide to write about this specific angle?

Living in Arizona, I’m surrounded by so many beautiful Native American cultures and influences. There are around 20 tribes in my state alone and I am neighbors to the Gila and the Pima. For me, it seemed natural to write a Native American character in a story set in Arizona. I wish that there were more Native American characters in mainstream YA.

5. My favorite scene is when Fred and Ryan drive out to the desert. :-) What was your favorite scene to write?

<3 That is one of my favorite scenes too. Thank you. I also love the scene where Fred shows up for the first day of golf practice and blows away her teammates with her golf swing. They were hoping she’d fail. She proved them wrong. Time and time again.

6. HOOKED was a fabulous read! What's next for you?

Thank you! I finished another YA contemporary this summer that is currently with my agent. I’m currently working on another YA contemporary about an adopted Hopi Indian girl but that is requiring much more research. I have a trip planned to Hopi Land in northeastern Arizona in the Spring.

Thanks for stopping by Liz! Now it's your chance to win a signed copy of Hooked!
