Book Trailer!

July 8, 2012 at 7:41 AMKatie McGarry

It’s awesome and weird when dreams come true.

I won’t lie, it’s a surreal experience because when I’m in the midst of a book signing or a panel or some other situation where I realize that my dream of becoming a published author has come true I ultimately have one thought: who am I to receive so many blessings?

I’m no one special. I’m not fantastically pretty. I’m not overly interesting. I know people who are kinder, smarter, better, funnier.

And because of all that, more often than not I get overwhelmed. When that happens, I remind myself to breathe, say a quick prayer of thanks, reach for my perspective and enjoy the moment because who knows if I’ll ever experience anything like this ever again.

This past week, Harlequin Teen has once again made one of my dreams come true: they made a book trailer for Pushing the Limits.

The trailer is absolutely amazing and I have no idea how to thank them for their creativity, support, and all their hard work.

Would you like to see it? Click on my home page to check it out.

Pushing the Limits Query Statistics

July 2, 2012 at 3:17 PMKatie McGarry

It's July! I can hardly believe that we've finally entered my release month. Only thirty more days to go until the release of Pushing the Limits.

This is my week to post over at YA Fusion and I took that opportunity to do something I never did before: I listed my query statistics for Pushing the Limits. You know, how many queries did I sent out, how many rejections I got from agents, etc.

I'm going to be honest, the journey to publication is difficult and at times painful. At least for me, my stories are very personal and I love them as I love my children. As much as I would try to remind myself that this was a business and to not take rejection personally, there were times that I did and that would lead to tears.

I'm a firm believer though that the key to getting published is persistence. The song below talks about pursuing your dream as a musician but I believe the song works for us as writers as well.

For anyone interested, here is the YA Fusion link:

Bad Romance, ALA, and First Four Chapters

June 18, 2012 at 6:14 PMKatie McGarry

Count down to release: six weeks

On paper, Echo and Noah were completely wrong for one another. Echo’s the good girl who gets the good grades who used to hang out with the right people. Noah’s the bad boy who uses girls, smokes pot, and doesn’t care what anyone thinks about him.

So when the attraction between these two characters creates sparks that threatens to become an inferno, Echo and Noah quickly figure out they are more than friend material. On top of the attraction, they actually begin to care for one another.

The moment I heard Bad Romance by Lady Gaga, I almost felt it had been written for these two characters. At the verse, I want your love, I don’t want to be friends, the music climbs to a climax and those words and that music embodies the growing relationship of Echo and Noah. To me the climax of the song relates to when Noah walks Echo against a wall and says, “Tell me you chose me.”

*sigh* I love that moment.

Calendar of Events and Reminders:

*I will be attending ALA in Anaheim, CA this weekend.

• Sunday, June 24th: I’ll be signing Pushing the Limits at the Harlequin Booth from 1:30 –2:30 pm.

• Monday, June 25th: I’ll be on the Books Without Boundaries: Crossover Fiction for YAs and Adults Panel from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM in room 206B

Pushing the Limits Street Team!!!!

June 10, 2012 at 11:19 AMKatie McGarry

Countdown to Pushing the Limits release: seven weeks

Last week I had the honor of attending Book Expo of America (BEA) in New York City. It was absolutely amazing to talk with readers and other writers! One of my highlights of the trip was meeting with representatives from Figment (

What is Figment? Here is their description from their website:

Figment is a community where you can share your writing, connect with other readers, and discover new stories and authors. Whatever you're into, from sonnets to mysteries, from sci-fi stories to cell phone novels, you can find it all here.

I am so excited to announce that my publisher, Harlequin Teen, has partnered with Figment to create Figment’s first ever Street Team. As per Figment’s website: The Figment Street Team is a rotating group of Figment users who are advocates for both the Figment brand and new books they’re promoting—like Pushing the Limits!

In return for participating you’ll be sent a copy of the novel, a package of four other Harlequin Teen titles, and a Figment tote bag.

And for an added bonus: Figment has posted the first four chapters of Pushing the Limits on their website!!!!

Are you interested in the first four chapters and joining the street team? If so, check out the following link to find the excerpt and to see how you can be selected to participate in the street team! Figment Street Team
